About TGA files
TGA is an old but still widely used image format from Truevision. Game developers and 3D artists use it for textures because it stores colour and transparency without loss.
Browsers can’t display TGA files, so Open Online decodes them itself: 8, 16, 24 and 32 bits per pixel, palette and greyscale images, with or without run-length compression, and in either vertical orientation. You can zoom in and save the picture as a PNG.
What you can do here
- Zoom with the mouse wheel or buttons and drag to move
- Pixels stay sharp when you zoom in
- See size, colour mode and depth
- Save the picture as a PNG
Limitations
- Only the picture itself is shown, no extra metadata.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
Common questions
Is transparency supported?
Yes. 32-bit TGA files with an alpha channel show their transparent areas on a checkerboard.
Which TGA variants don’t open?
Rare variants such as 8-bit images with colour-mapped RLE and unusual bit depths may not open.
Can I convert TGA to PNG?
Yes. Use the “Save as PNG” button in the toolbar.
