About JPG files
JPEG is the most common format for photos. It compresses images with some loss of detail, which keeps files small. Cameras and phones also store EXIF data in it: camera model, exposure, date and often the location.
Open Online shows the photo at full resolution with zoom and pan, and reads the EXIF data locally.
What you can do here
- Zoom with the mouse wheel or buttons, drag to pan
- Switch between fit to screen and actual pixels
- Transparent areas shown on a checkerboard
- Rotate or flip, and save the result as a new file
- Read camera data (EXIF): camera, lens, exposure, date and GPS position
Limitations
- Saving a rotated or flipped copy re-encodes the image and drops its EXIF data.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
Common questions
Does this show where a photo was taken?
If the photo contains GPS data, the coordinates are listed under File info. Check this before sharing photos.
Can I rotate a photo?
Yes. Rotate or flip it and save a copy. The copy is re-encoded, and its EXIF data is removed.
