About GIF files
GIF is one of the oldest image formats on the web, limited to 256 colours per frame. It is still widely used for short animations.
Open Online plays animated GIFs and lets you zoom in on them.
What you can do here
- Zoom with the mouse wheel or buttons, drag to pan
- Switch between fit to screen and actual pixels
- Transparent areas shown on a checkerboard
- Rotate or flip, and save the result as a new file
- Read camera data (EXIF): camera, lens, exposure, date and GPS position
Limitations
- Saving a rotated or flipped copy re-encodes the image and drops its EXIF data.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
Common questions
Can I pause or step through frames?
Not yet. The animation plays the way your browser plays it.
Can I turn a GIF into a video?
aintob.com converts GIF to MP4 and WebM, which are usually much smaller.
