About JSON files
JSON is a text format for structured data: objects, arrays, strings, numbers. APIs, configuration files and many exports use it.
Open Online shows JSON as a collapsible tree and as highlighted source, checks it for errors, and formats or minifies it on request.
What you can do here
- Collapsible tree view
- Raw view with syntax highlighting
- Validation that points to the line of an error
- Format (beautify) or minify
- Copy any value or its path
- Search keys and values
- Edit and save

Common questions
Where is the error in my JSON?
If the file isn’t valid, the raw view marks the line and explains the problem, such as a missing comma or an unclosed bracket.
Can I copy the path to a value?
Yes. Select a node in the tree and copy its path, for example $.items[3].name.
How large can the file be?
Files of 100 MB and more open on desktop browsers. The tree only draws the nodes you expand.
