About IPYNB files
IPYNB files are Jupyter notebooks: documents that mix text, code and the results of running that code. Data scientists and students use them with Jupyter, JupyterLab, VS Code and Google Colab.
Open Online shows the notebook as it was saved. Markdown cells are formatted, code cells keep their execution numbers, and charts, tables and printed output appear below each cell. Nothing is run and nothing leaves your device.
What you can do here
- Read text, code and results in order, like in Jupyter
- Pictures, charts, tables and error messages appear as saved
- Search through the whole notebook
- See the kernel, language and number of cells
Limitations
- Nothing is run: you see the results that were saved in the file.
- Interactive outputs such as widgets and Plotly charts are not shown.
- Mathematical formulas are shown as plain text.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
Common questions
Can I run the code?
No. Open Online is a viewer. You see the results saved in the file, but no code is executed.
Why is an output missing?
Interactive outputs, such as widgets and Plotly charts, need a live notebook. A note marks their place.
Is the HTML in notebook outputs safe?
It is cleaned before it is shown. Scripts, forms and remote content are removed.
