About VCF files

vCard (.vcf) files store contact details such as names, phone numbers and addresses. Phones and address book apps export them, and one file can hold hundreds of contacts.

Open Online shows the file as text, so you can check what it contains before you import it.

What you can do here

  • Line numbers and syntax highlighting
  • Search and replace
  • Toggle word wrap
  • Edit the text and save a copy
  • See encoding, line endings, line and word counts

Limitations

  • Very large files (over 50 MB) open read-only to keep the browser responsive.

Privacy

The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy

Common questions

Can I see the contact photos?

Photos are stored inside the file as long Base64 text. They appear as text, not as pictures.

Does this import the contacts?

No. The file is only displayed; nothing is added to any address book.
