About SRT files
SubRip (.srt) is the most common subtitle format. A file is a numbered list of cues, each with a start time, an end time and the text shown on screen.
Open Online shows the cues as text with line numbers, so you can read or fix them and save a copy.
What you can do here
- Line numbers and syntax highlighting
- Search and replace
- Toggle word wrap
- Edit the text and save a copy
- See encoding, line endings, line and word counts
Limitations
- Very large files (over 50 MB) open read-only to keep the browser responsive.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
Common questions
Why do some characters look wrong?
SRT files often use older encodings such as Windows-1252. Open Online tries UTF-8 first and then falls back to Windows-1252. The detected encoding is listed under File info.
Can I shift the timing?
Not yet. You can edit the timestamps by hand and save a copy.
