About GLB files

GLB is the binary form of glTF, the “JPEG of 3D”. It packs geometry, materials and textures into one file and is used for web 3D, augmented reality and game assets.

Open Online loads the model with WebGL in your browser, keeps its materials and textures and lets you rotate and zoom. It shows the triangle count, materials and the program that made the file. Nothing is uploaded.

What you can do here

  • Rotate, zoom and move the model with the mouse or by touch
  • Switch to wireframe, hide the grid or darken the background
  • Reset the view with one click
  • See triangles, vertices, size and materials

Limitations

  • Models are shown with simple lighting. Textures and materials are shown for glTF files only.
  • Compressed glTF models (Draco, Meshopt) are not supported yet.
  • glTF files that load extra files from other places are not supported, only self-contained GLB.

Privacy

The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy

Common questions

Are animations played?

Not yet. The model is shown in its rest pose. The number of animations is listed in File info.

What about .gltf files?

Only self-contained GLB files are supported. A .gltf file usually refers to separate texture and data files, which can’t be loaded from a single dropped file.

Why does a model not open?

Models compressed with Draco, Meshopt or KTX need extra decoders that Open Online doesn’t include yet.
