About XLSX files

XLSX is Microsoft Excel’s default format since 2007. A workbook can hold many worksheets, each a grid of values, formulas and formatting.

Open Online reads the workbook with SheetJS and shows each sheet in a fast, scrollable grid, even for sheets with hundreds of thousands of rows.

What you can do here

  • Switch between worksheets with tabs
  • Scroll large tables smoothly, with row numbers and column letters
  • Search all cells and jump between matches
  • Click a cell to see its full value
  • See sheet sizes, workbook properties and detected column headers

Limitations

  • Formulas are shown as their last saved results.
  • Charts, images, conditional formatting and cell colours are not displayed.

Privacy

The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy

Common questions

Are formulas recalculated?

No. You see the values Excel saved the last time the file was calculated, which is what Excel shows when it opens the file too.

Can I edit and save the workbook?

Not yet. Editing is available for CSV files. To get a CSV or ODS version, convert the workbook with aintob.com.

Does it work with .xlsm and .xlsb?

Yes, both open. Macros in .xlsm files are never run.
