About XLS files
XLS is the binary spreadsheet format Excel used from 1997 to 2003. Many exports from older business software still produce it.
Open Online reads XLS files with the same viewer as modern workbooks: sheet tabs, search and a scrollable grid.
What you can do here
- Switch between worksheets with tabs
- Scroll large tables smoothly, with row numbers and column letters
- Search all cells and jump between matches
- Click a cell to see its full value
- See sheet sizes, workbook properties and detected column headers
Limitations
- Formulas are shown as their last saved results.
- Charts, images, conditional formatting and cell colours are not displayed.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
