About FB2 files
FB2 is an XML-based ebook format that is especially popular in Russia and Eastern Europe. It stores the book’s text with its chapters, poems, footnotes and cover in a single file. Many free libraries and readers such as FBReader and CoolReader use it.
Open Online decodes the text in the encoding named in the file, including windows-1251, and shows the book as a scrolling page with a chapter menu, footnotes and search. Nothing is uploaded.
What you can do here
- Read the book as one continuous page with chapters, poems and footnotes
- Jump to any chapter from a menu
- Search the whole text
- Cover, author, series, genre and language from the book’s details
Limitations
- Pictures are shown, but fonts and colours are replaced by the reader’s own.
- Compressed .fb2.zip files are not unpacked yet.
Privacy
The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy
Common questions
Why is the text shown correctly even in old files?
Many FB2 files use windows-1251 instead of UTF-8. Open Online reads the encoding from the file and decodes it accordingly.
Are footnotes supported?
Yes. Notes appear at the end of the book, and the links in the text jump to them.
What about .fb2.zip files?
Unpack them first with a ZIP tool or open the ZIP here, then open the .fb2 file inside.
