About PPTX files

PPTX is PowerPoint’s default format since 2007, also used by Keynote and Google Slides exports. Each slide is stored as XML with its text, shapes and images.

Open Online draws the slides in your browser and lists the text of every slide, so you can read a deck even when the layout isn’t perfect.

What you can do here

  • Flip through slides with thumbnails, buttons or the arrow keys
  • Read the text of every slide in an outline
  • See slide count, title, author and the app that created it

Limitations

  • The slide renderer is experimental. Text, shapes, images and simple charts are drawn, but layouts can differ from PowerPoint.
  • Animations, transitions, audio and video are not played.

Privacy

The file is read by your browser and stays on your device. Open Online has no server that could receive it, and nothing is stored once you close the tab. Privacy policy

Common questions

Why does a slide look different from PowerPoint?

The slide renderer is experimental. Text and images are reliable; effects, custom fonts and SmartArt may not be. The text outline always has the complete slide text.

Can I present from here?

You can flip through slides with the arrow keys. Animations and transitions are not played.

Can I open .ppt files?

The older binary .ppt format is not supported yet.
